Tidal wave!

This task is about adding words to a text so that it makes sense.
 
The following piece of writing has some spaces where words are missing.

 
First, read the whole piece of writing through to get an idea of what it is about. Then fill each space with ONE word so that the whole piece of writing makes sense. You are able to change answers as you go.

Tidal wave
 
"A tidal wave is expected to hit the Eastern coast of New Zealand later today."
That's what I heard when Gran 1 on the radio at breakfast time. 2 earthquake in Chile had started the 3, now it was coming across the 4 towards New Zealand. Gran was delighted. 5 loved disasters!
"When I was a 6, I remember there was a wave 7 this," she said. "It smashed the 8 across the river."
After breakfast, Gran 9 me into town where everybody was 10 about the wave. The shop people 11 all busy putting goods from the  12 shelves up to the top shelves. 13 the fruit shop, Gran asked Mr Chan 14 he thought there was any danger.
"15 home, lady, just to be safe, 16 take the lovely child with you," 17 replied, in his polite way.
Out 18 the street, everyone seemed to be 19 in the same direction. They were not going home. Gran kept asking people 20 they were hurrying to.
"Up the 21, to get a good place to 22 the wave," one woman said. 
"Good 23," said Gran. She took my hand. "24 with me." And we marched off 25 the top of the hill to 26 a good place.
