Persuasive speech

This task is about giving a persuasive speech.

You are to prepare a persuasive speech on an issue you have a strong opinion about.

Persuade means "To make another person believe or do something by presenting compelling evidence or presenting a strong argument".

The assessment is focused on your ability to persuade the class to at least consider your point of view.

Persuasive speaking depends on simplicity, directness, and confident assertion. It should be direct, lively, and delivered with feeling.

[If you prepare the speech for a certain type of audience, announce this to the class before your speech].

Sometimes found in persuasive speeches are:

  • Rhetorical questions
  • Arguments by analogy
  • Emotional appeals
  • Antithesis
  • Repetition
  • Strong use of gesture
