Diagnostic and formative information:

133 Year 6 students trialled this resource. Their scripts were analysed for common errors.

  • 15 students named an animal part instead of the sense. (They all did this consistently over all five senses. For example, for sight, student wrote 'eye'.)
  • For two senses, taste and touch, some students named an action. For example, for taste, students wrote 'eating'.
Next steps:
Model correct language and ask questions to develop students' vocabulary so they can differentiate between the sense, the action and the body part.
  • What senses do we use when we are eating?
  • What parts of our body do we use when we are tasting something?
