Description of task: 
Students are provided with a picture of a New Zealand native bird. Students select a word from a given list to name each of these bird parts. Students are then required to explain why the bird needs each of these named parts.

Beak: To grab/hold/eat food, or for defence.
Feathers: To keep the bird warm/insulated/waterproof.
Tail-feathers: Help the bird fly/fly straight/maintain balance.

Feet: Allow the bird to stand/land/walk on things. Allow the bird to hold onto branches/food, etc.
Claws: Allow the bird to grasp things, e.g.,food, and hang onto it.
