Spiders resources

Students are provided with seven drawings of different animals and are asked to draw circles around those that are insects. Two features of insects are also required.

Students are given a diagram of a fly and are asked to give three reasons why this animal is not a spider.

Students identify which one of the four drawn animals is not an insect, and then give a reason for their choice.

Students use a key to classify and describe a number of the illustrated insects and spiders.

Task: use a chart comparing the features of insects and spiders to decide which group a wētā belongs in. Assessment Focus: classification.
