Your teacher will ask you some questions about the different animals shown below. 

 

And the different animals shown below.

Task administration: 

[Equipment: Thirteen cut out cards.]

This task is administered verbally. This task is best done one-to-one but can be done with a group of up to four students each with their own set of cards. Say to the student(s), "Here are some cards of different animals."

  • a) Give the student(s) the nine cards. Say, "Sort these pictures into the groups; Mammals, Birds, and Fish."
  • b) Point to one of the mammals correctly identified. Say, "How do you know this is a mammal?"
  • c) Point to one of the birds correctly identified. Say, "How do you know this is a bird?"
  • d) Point to one of the fish correctly identified. Say, "How do you know this is a fish?"

[Next set of cards]

  • e) Show them the picture of the penguin. Say, "Does the penguin belong in any of your groups? (Which group)?"
  • f) Show them the picture of the bat. Say, "Does the bat belong in any of your groups? (Which group)?"
  • g) Show them the picture of the whale. Say, "Does the whale belong in any of your groups? (Which group)?"
  • h) Show them the picture of the lizard. Say, "Does the lizard belong in any of your groups?"

If student(s) answer "No", say,  "Do you know the group it belongs to?"
