Units of measurement resources

For this NEMP task students perform a range of practical measuring tasks including calculations involving time and selection of appropriate units of measuring.

Students work out the time based on how much a candle burns down.

This task is about identifying the best unit to measure temperature, weight, time, capacity and length.

Students select the best unit measure of length for a number of situations.

Students identify the correct unit of measurement that would be used for the weight or length of a range of everyday objects.

Students explain why two people will get different totals when measuring a room using their hand span.

Students identify the correct unit of measurement that would be used for the weight or length of a range of everyday objects.

In this practical task, students estimate, and then measure, the weight of two objects using a number of multi-link cubes, a balance scale and weights.

In this practical task, students first estimate, then measure, how many 500ml jars it takes to fill a 1 litre and a 3 litre container

In this practical task, students estimate how many multi-link blocks equal the length of two common classroom items. They then check their estimate with the blocks, then measure with a ruler.

Students choose the most appropriate measurement unit - millimetre, centimetre, metre, or kilometre - to measure a range of objects.

Students identify whether litres or millilitres would be the best unit of measurement for a range of everyday measuring tasks.

Students select which unit of time - seconds, minutes, or hours - would most likely be used to time a range of everyday activities.
