This task is about writing text to encourage recycling.
Your local council is going to put an advertisement in the paper so that people will know about how recycling helps the environment.

Your task is to write this advertisement. Your advertisement will need to explain

  • two reasons how recyclng helps the environment (why)
  • what materials can be recycled (what)
  • how recycling is carried out in the town (how).

Reasons for recycling
Any 2 of:
  • Less rubbish in the environment, etc.
  • Less rubbish goes to landfills/tips.
  • Reduces the need for raw materials.
  • Less energy is needed with recycling.
  • New things can be made from recycled materials.
  • Other acceptable answers.
Materials that can be recycled, e.g., glass, iron, aluminium, (metal), paper, plastic. 
Method of recycling. Outlines a feasible method for recycling, e.g., kerbside collection, large bins in central areas, etc.

NOTE: When this task was trialled, the number of reasons for recycling was not specified. Only a few students gave two or more reasons, which will account for the low difficulty level. The question now asks specifically for two reasons.
