Task administration:
Equipment
Large balls (enough for one between two); large indoor or outdoor space, e.g., playground or hall; task cards; teacher checklist.
  • This task assesses student understanding of the locus/flight path of a large ball.
  • This assessment is designed to be carried out in pairs.
  • Give students the chance to perform 2 side view tasks and 2 bird's eye view tasks.
  • The term "bird's eye view" may need to be explained.
  • The arrows on the bird's eye view cards are guidelines only - students may move the ball in either direction.
  • Say to students:

Each pair of students will get a task card and a large ball. The lines on the card show the flight path of the ball. Work out how to move the ball and keep moving it that way while I come and observe your pair. You can throw, bounce, carry, or dribble the ball. The card only shows how the ball should move, it doesn't show how the people should move. When I say "Stop", one person in the pair should hold the ball still and the other person should bring the card back and get a new one.
