This task is about reading and constructing strip graphs.
Graph A: Favourite fast food shops of students in Room 7

Graph A is a strip graph, which shows the favourite fast food shops of students in Room 7.

Some of the fast food shops sell the same type of food.

a)
Group the food on the graph above into 4 food groups. List the 4 groups below.

b) To make it clear what foods are the most popular in Room 7 you will need to make a new strip graph that groups the foods from Graph A into sections for each food group.  
  i) Cut Graph A into sections for each different fast food shop and then paste them together again on Graph B.

This task is completed with pencil and paper and with equipment.
 
Equipment:
Lightweight card; glue; scissors and item sheet for each student.
  • This task assesses students' ability to interpret a strip graph and use this information to construct a new graph.
  • This assessment activity can be carried out with a class/group of students working independently.
  • Teacher checks have been included in this task to ensure the students complete each section of the task correctly before moving onto the next section.
