Task administration: 
This task can be completed with pencil and paper or online with some auto-marking, or administered verbally with equipment.

 
Equipment:
Nine cut out cards.
This task can be administered verbally. This is best done one-to-one, but can be done with a group of up to four students, each with their own set of cards. Say to the student(s), "Here are some cards of different animals."
  • a) Give the student(s) eight cards (i.e., all except the fly). Say, "Sort these pictures into two piles, those which are insects and those which are not insects."
  • b) Sort the cards into insects and others if has not been correctly done by the student(s). Ask, "What is one feature all these insects have in common?"
  • c) Now show the student(s) the card with the fly on it. Ask, "Would you call this animal an insect?"
