Measurement sense resources

For this NEMP task students perform a range of practical measuring tasks including calculations involving time and selection of appropriate units of measuring.

Students convert millilitres to litres and vice versa when working out quantities of bottles and glasses of fizzy drink for a party.

Students order litre and millilitre capacities from smallest to largest, compare given capacities and explain how they know whether one is larger/smaller or the same.

This practical task requires students to use a 1 metre measure to estimate the dimensions of a room, and then calculate the volume of the room.

Students select a true statement about the area of three shapes on a grid.

Students calculate the total area of a deck and a deck with an extension.

Students calculate the shapes with the largest and smallest perimeter and identify a relationship between the features of a shape and the perimeter.

Students calculate the height and base of two different triangles.

In this practical task students design a net for a lidded cardboard cube to hold a tennis ball. They then cut out and construct the cube.

In this practical task students design a net for a lidded cardboard box to hold 3 "chocolate bars" represented by hundreds blocks. They then cut out and construct the box.

Students answer questions about perimeter and length of square and rectangle shapes.

Students use the scaled plan of a property to calculate the area of the pool, house, and lawn.

Students identify which of four shapes created from equilateral triangles has the largest area and which has the largest perimeter.

Students answer two multiple-choice questions about the number of smaller blocks that fit into larger cuboid containers.

Students convert units of weight - grams and kilograms - to answer questions a range of food items.

Students calculate the number of 3-dimensional shapes that fit into larger 3-dimensional shapes.

Students calculate the distance travelled by the tips of the hands on a clock, and calculate the speed of one of the tips.

Students calculate and record the length and height of coins in centimetres and metres.

Students read scales from pictures of everyday measuring equipment.

Students read scales from pictures of everyday measuring equipment.

Students read scales from pictures of everyday measuring equipment.

This task is about finding the circumference of a circle using two different radius measurements.

Students identify the largest weight of cuts of meat, and convert kilograms into grams.

Students draw shapes to show how the perimeter increases and decreases for different shapes of the same area size.

Students calculate the area of two shapes on a grid.
