Multiplication resources

This task requires students to show how to calculate multiplication problems with multi-digit numbers.

Students discuss making an interval estimate in multiplication problems (i.e., getting a lower and an upper limit for the actual answer using the front-end and rounding-up estimation methods). They then use this method on two problems.

Students work out the number of covered counters on a 10 x 10 array.

Students complete number patterns, identifying and creating rules.

Students show how they estimate in some multiplication problems and come up with sensible estimates.

Students calculate how price changes affect a purchase.

Students calculate the cost of a set of books given unit prices for an individual book.

Students select which person has correctly applied the laws of indices to some problems, and explain their choice.

Students evaluate a number of expressions involving the laws of indices (exponents).

Students identify what happens to indices when simplifying algebraic expressions.

Students write algebraic expressions with indices which make equations true.

For this NEMP task students answer a series of 7 questions covering many aspects of Number operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
