This task is about making a speech in which you teach a group how to do something.

Prepare a speech in which you teach a group of students how to do something. You may use visual aids to help you present your speech.

Choose a topic from the list below or make up a topic of your own.

  1. Make a plan of the things you will say in your speech.
  2. Write the main ideas on a cue card, but do not write out all the words in your speech.
  3. Collect any visual aids you need.
 

Possible topic list

How to: 

  • recycle

  • make poi

  • make a sandwich

  • play marbles

  • weave a basket 

  • learn times tables

  • play a favourite game

  • ride a skateboard

  • make a lei

  • make popcorn

  • dribble a basketball [or other sports skill]

  • learn spelling words

  • re use a plastic drink bottle into something useful

  • make an origami bird, or

  • a topic that you and your teacher agree on.

Task administration: 
  • To undertake this task, students need to be able to plan a speech independently.
  • A suggested length for these speeches is between 1 and 2 minutes.
  • Oral language assessment guides B and D are suitable for this task.
