This task is about drawing a rotation and reflection of a shape.

Your teacher has given you a bird shape to use in this task. On Sheet 1 there is a bird on a grid.

a) Starting at the bird, use your bird shape to draw a bird where it would be if you completed a 12 rotation. Label this bird A.
b) Starting at the bird, use your bird shape to draw a bird where it would be if you completed a 14  rotation clockwise. Label this bird B.
c) Starting at the bird, use your bird shape to draw a bird where it would be if you completed a 14 rotation anti-clockwise. Label this bird C.
d) Use your bird shape to draw another bird on the grid where it would be when you have reflected it on the mirror line (m).

On sheet 2 there is a bird on a grid. A mirror line (m) has been drawn.

Task administration: 
This task can be completed with pencil and paper.
 
Equipment 
One cage outline and one cardboard bird shape per student.
  • This task assesses students' knowledge of rotation and reflection.
  • This assessment activity can be carried out with one student at a time, or by observing a group of students.
  • Teacher can photocopy bird shapes onto light card and cut these out prior to the task.

Description of task: 
Students use a template to complete three rotations of a bird in the cage. The same template is used to draw the reflection of the bird using the mirror line shown on the cage.
