This task is about writing a letter.
Read the letter. Imagine that your class received this letter. Write a letter to the Playground Trust, thanking them for the donation.
Task administration:
This is a NEMP trend task. This task was trialled in both 1998 and 2002. The data for both years has been included under the "Marking Student Responses" tab.

For this NEMP task students write a thank you letter to the Playground Trust. The letter is assessed on letter conventions, content, and language.

Commentary:
Perhaps because thank you letters from Year 4 students would often be collected and sent with a covering letter by the teacher, Year 4 students followed business letter conventions much less fully than did Year 8 students. Only about 25 percent of Year 8 students included a good proportion of desirable elements.
