Area resources

For this NEMP task students perform a range of practical measuring tasks including calculations involving time and selection of appropriate units of measuring.

Students enlarge a diagram to a given scale.

Students select a true statement about the area of three shapes on a grid.

Students calculate the total area of a deck and a deck with an extension.

Students calculate the shapes with the largest and smallest perimeter and identify a relationship between the features of a shape and the perimeter.

Students calculate the height and base of two different triangles.

Students compare the area of two different triangles.

Students use the scaled plan of a property to calculate the area of the pool, house, and lawn.

Students identify which of four shapes created from equilateral triangles has the largest area and which has the largest perimeter.

Students calculate the number of 3-dimensional shapes that fit into larger 3-dimensional shapes.

Students draw shapes to show how the perimeter increases and decreases for different shapes of the same area size.

Students calculate the area of two shapes on a grid.

Students calculate the perimeter and area of a composite shape.

Students design school library badges by creating four symmetrical patterns using 2-dimensional shapes. A display board template is included for students to put their work on.

Students calculate the width, height, perimeter and area of a dressing table, and the volume of a drawer from given measurements.

Students estimate (and explain how) the area of two islands on a grid.

For this NEMP task students calculate the number of tiles needed to cover the area of several rooms.

Students calculate area of colours and the perimeter of a flag.

Students calculate the area of a space to be painted and the length of time it will take to paint a different area.

Students calculate the surface area and volume of cuboids.

Students calculate the area of a bush reserve in hectares.

From two different street sign pictures and their enlargements, students are to identify the scale factor of each enlargement and either a missing length or the missing factor when enlarging the area.

Students use the measurements of a swimming pool and surrounding area to calculate perimeter, area and quantity of tiles needed for the surrounds.

Students calculate the area of lawn, deck, house, patio, pool drive and garden of a section.

Students use a scale map to estimate the area of Antarctica and explain their method.
