Showing temperature changes
This task is about showing and writing equations with negative numbers on number lines.
On Day 1 of a week the temperature changed from 5°C below (⁻5°C) to 5°C above zero (+5°C), as shown on the number line below.
This change may also be written as an equation: ⁻5°C + 10°C = 5°C.
a)

For Day 2 the temperature change was from 6°C below zero to 2°C below.

i)

Draw the temperature change on the number line below, using an arrow to show the direction of the change.

ii)
Write an equation to show the change in temperature for Day 2. ____________________

b)

For Day 3 the temperature change was from 3°C below zero to 4°C above.

i)

Draw the temperature change on the number line below.

ii)
Write an equation to show the change in temperature for Day 3. ____________________

a)

For Day 4 the temperature change was from 4°C below zero to 8°C below.

i)

Draw the temperature change on the number line below.

ii)
Write an equation to show the change in temperature for Day 4. ____________________
