Task administration:
  • Read the following adaptation of the story 'The Three Little Pigs' to the students.
  • Explain to the students that they are to construct a line graph of the story.
  • After each sentence, ask students to plot on their graph how frightened the 3rd little pig was feeling in the story.
  1. The 3rd little pig leaves home and his Mum tells him about the big bad wolf and he is a little bit frightened.
  2. The little pig starts building a brick house and forgets all about what his Mum said about the wolf.
  3. The little pig's brothers visit him and they talk about their houses being blown down by the wolf. The little pig is frightened but he knows the wolf can't blow his house down.
  4. There's a knock at the door and the little pig's heart beats faster, he is feeling more frightened.
  5. The wolf starts huffing and puffing but the little pig remembers the wolf can't blow down his house so he is feeling a little less frightened.
  6. The wolf says he is going to climb down the chimney and eat them. The little pig is now feeling very frightened.
  7. The little pig puts a pot of boiling water over the fire and that makes him feel a little bit better.
  8. The wolf falls down the chimney and into the pot of boiling water and is cooked. The little pig is not frightened any more.

b) Builds house is at 'Not Frightened'.
c) Brothers arrive is between 'Not Frightened' and 'Very Frightened' – closer to 'Very Frightened'.
