This task is about finding all possible combinations.
How to do this task
Pirika can wear lots of different outfits by mixing different coloured caps, shirts, and shorts. Pirika has 2 pairs of shorts, 3 shirts, and 2 caps.

  • Cut out the cardboard figure and all the clothes.
  • Use the labels on each piece of clothing to record your combinations.
  • Work out all the different sets of clothes that Pirika can wear and write each one down on your recording sheet.

The first one has been done for you.

Task administration: 
This task is completed with pencil and paper, and other equipment.
 
Equipment:
One set of clothes and figure (copied onto light card); scissors.
  • This task assesses students' ability to investigate the different combinations for a set of clothes.
  • This assessment activity can be carried out with one student at a time or by observing a group of students working independently.
  • You may wish to cut out the figure and/or the clothing prior to carrying out this task.
  • Model the first set of clothing (grey cap, black shirt, and black shorts) on the cardboard figure.
  • The items of clothing have been labelled with the following abbreviations to help students with the recording – grey cap (GC), black cap (BC), grey shirt (GS), white shirt (WS), black shirt (BS), black shorts (BSS), and white shorts (WSS). This will need to be explained to the students.
