This task is about drawing a shape with the features you are given.

Using your felt pens/coloured pencils you are to design 4 new badges for Rātā School's student librarians. 

Use the grid paper below to design 4 different badges. Each badge must have the following things:

  • a total of 16 whole squares;
  • a rectangle shape;
  • at least 1 line of symmetry;
  • 3 colours only, these need to be symmetrical also.

Task administration: 
This task can be completed with pencil and paper and other equipment.
 
Equipment
One sheet of 1 cm × 1 cm grid paper; felt pens/coloured pencils.
  • This task assesses students' ability to design four symmetrical patterns using 2-dimensional shapes.
  • This assessment activity can be carried out with a group/class of students working independently.
  • Teacher can have photocopies of the grid paper ready prior to task.

Description of task: 
Students design school library badges by creating four symmetrical patterns using 2-dimensional shapes. A display board template is included for students to put their work on.
