Read the instructions to the students and get them to fill in their responses on their separate pieces of paper.

Instructions
You are going to carry out an investigation. Choose a topic to ask all the people in your class about.  Here are some examples: favourite fast food, favourite sports, favourite pets, favourite soft-drink flavours, favourite ice-cream flavours, or your own favourite topic idea.

a) On your sheet of paper, complete the question with a topic you want to ask people about.
 
b) i) On the tally chart write down the four most popular answers that you think people will give, under the word "favourites."
  ii) Ask all the people in the class what their favourite things are, so you can answer your question. Put a tally mark next to the answer they give. If they don't say one of the answers you picked, put a tally mark next to "others."
  iii) When you have asked all the people in your class, write down the total number who liked each favourite on the chart.
 
c) Draw a bar graph to show the data you have collected. Remember to fill in the title for your graph.
